Daily lessons from the people running the businesses

What I Learnt From Listening to Management Interviews Today

October 8, 2026 | StockScans Daily Management Interview Series

7 management interviews. 5 sectors. A lot to unpack.

Today’s interviews covered NBFCs, jewellery, real estate, capital goods and agrochemicals.

The interesting part isn't just what management said about their own businesses. It's the signals across sectors, credit growth remains healthy, real estate continues to show resilience, industrial demand remains strong, while agrochemicals are still dealing with weather-led weakness.

Here are the key takeaways from all 7 interviews.

1. SBFC Finance: NIMs remain above the guided floor

The big takeaway from SBFC was margin resilience.

Management said its steady-state NIM remains well above the level previously guided, even with the possibility of further rate hikes.

The interesting part is the way management framed it:

Rate hikes could eventually impact NIMs, but the company expects them to remain above its guided range.

There was also an interesting industry observation, weaker players could see greater pressure, potentially accelerating consolidation toward established lenders.

Investor takeaway:
Don't just ask whether NIMs will decline. Ask whether they decline below management's guided floor.

2. Titan: Festive demand looks encouraging, but wait for the numbers

Titan's quarterly update had shown a visible slowdown, partly because of the shift in the festive calendar.

The interview focused on whether demand has recovered as the festive season progresses.

Management pointed to positive customer sentiment and said consumers are looking forward to the festive period.

But there is an important distinction here:

Sentiment ≠ sales.

The commentary is encouraging, but investors should wait for the actual festive-period numbers before concluding that the slowdown was purely timing-related.

Investor takeaway:
A good example of why management commentary should be used as a leading indicator, not a substitute for reported numbers.

3. Muthoot Microfin: Growth is running ahead of guidance

This was one of the strongest growth signals of the day.

Muthoot Microfin had guided for around 20% AUM growth for FY27.

Management now says the company has already surpassed that trajectory and remains confident of achieving at least 20% growth for the full year.

Disbursement momentum has also remained strong quarter-on-quarter.

Investor takeaway:
When a company is tracking ahead of its own full-year guidance with three quarters still remaining, the next questions become:

  • Is funding availability keeping pace?

  • Is borrower demand sustainable?

  • What happens to asset quality as growth accelerates?

Growth is great. Quality of growth matters more.

4. Raymond Realty: ₹4,100 Cr added to the launch pipeline

Raymond Realty had one of the most tangible updates of the day.

The company has lined up two Mahim redevelopment launches:

  • Mahim 1 — ₹1,800 Cr GDV

  • Mahim 2 — ₹2,300 Cr GDV

That's a combined ₹4,100 Cr GDV.

The company's estimated pipeline now stands at roughly ₹52,000 Cr GDV.

And the pipeline is not just theoretical.

Q2 FY27 pre-sales came in at approximately ₹902 Cr, up 98% YoY, while H1 pre-sales increased 111% to ₹1,602 Cr.

Management continues to maintain its minimum 20% FY27 pre-sales growth guidance.

Investor takeaway:
The interesting part isn't just the ₹52,000 Cr pipeline.

It's the combination of:

Pipeline → launches → pre-sales → execution → cash generation.

That is the chain investors should track.

5. Marathon Nextgen Realty: Micro-markets matter more than macro headlines

Marathon's commentary was interesting from a real-estate perspective.

When asked about inflationary and geopolitical risks, management said the impact across its micro-markets is currently negligible.

The company also highlighted its ready inventory and asset quality.

This reinforces an important point:

Indian real estate isn't one single market.

Mumbai micro-markets can behave very differently from other regions, depending on supply, demographics, infrastructure and affordability.

Investor takeaway:
Don't make a real-estate thesis only from macro headlines.

Track the specific micro-market, launches, absorption and pricing power.

6. Thermax: Strong demand, but conversion is now the bottleneck

This was probably the most interesting capital-goods commentary of the day.

Management acknowledged the pressure from:

  • Commodity prices

  • Interest rates

  • Crude

But despite these pressures, management said:

Demand remains very strong.

Even more interesting was the comment on the order pipeline.

Management described the current pipeline as exceptionally large, while saying the bigger challenge is now converting orders into revenue, rather than generating orders.

That distinction is important.

A strong order book is only valuable when it eventually converts into:

Revenue → EBITDA → Cash Flow.

Thermax's FY26 numbers already showed strong order momentum, particularly in Industrial Infra and Green Solutions.

Investor takeaway:
For the next few quarters, order inflow may be less interesting than execution and revenue conversion.

7. Insecticides India: The monsoon remains the problem

Insecticides India provided the opposite demand signal.

The company's commentary was centred around the impact of a below-normal monsoon on agrochemical demand.

This is a reminder that agrochemical earnings are closely linked to:

Rainfall → sowing → acreage → crop conditions → farmer income → agrochemical demand.

A weak season can create significant volatility in quarterly numbers.

Investor takeaway:
Don't extrapolate one weak quarter too far.

The key question is whether demand normalises in H2 or whether the weakness extends into the next agricultural cycle.

A thought from the Bhagavad Gita

Investing is a long game.

There will be good calls, bad calls, right calls and wrong calls.

The only thing we can keep improving is ourselves - how we read, how we think, how we question, and how we learn.

Keep sharpening your process.
Keep learning every day.
Keep connecting the dots.

See you tomorrow. 🙏
