- Global market share: India currently represents about 2% of the global commercial aerospace supply chain, with expectations to account for around 10% of the global aviation market over the coming decade. Work packages have scaled substantially, making contracts of $100 million increasingly common.
- Growth tailwinds: Multi-year sector expansion is driven by OEM order backlogs that extend through 2035, Indian domestic aviation growing at twice the rate of GDP, post-COVID engineering talent shortages in Western supply chains, and Western capital costs rising to 7–8%.
- Manufacturing capabilities: Indian production has expanded to automated machining of complex components up to 4 meters in length across materials like aluminum, steel, and Inconel. Localized special economic zone clusters also allow parts to be completely finished within a 500-meter radius.
- Capital requirements: The commercial sector remains predominantly build-to-print and requires patient, heavy capital expenditure, with major assets such as large forging presses requiring $30 million to $150 million and taking 6 to 12 years to break even.
