AMD Industries is a packaging specialist that has spent four decades making the closures, preforms and bottles that put fizzy drinks, juice and beer on Indian shelves - it started in 1974 when founder Ashok Gupta set up a unit to make aluminium caps for the liquor industry, incorporated as AMD Industries in 1983, and began commercial production in 1985. The recurring approach that explains the business is a tight focus on cost: the company consolidated its entire factory footprint into a single Rajasthan plant to reduce production costs, runs a dedicated cost-saving department that hunts down deviations expense by expense, and relies on better production technology to shave weight off products without hurting quality - rather than spending on in-house R&D. Today it is a single-engine manufacturer with a small real-estate side bet, publicly traded on the NSE and BSE, and still run by the founding family from its registered office in New Delhi.
Business segments
Two engines at different stages - a packaging cash cow that makes the caps, closures and bottles for India's beverage industry, and a real-estate side bet that collects a revenue share from a commercial complex in Gurgaon.
1. Rigid packaging: the factory that puts a lid on India's drinks
One plant in Neemrana, Rajasthan, makes every crown cap, plastic closure and PET bottle the company sells - and the business rises and falls with the summer thirst of its big-beverage customers.
- A single-site operation - all production lines and capacity that once sat in Ghaziabad were shifted entirely to the Neemrana plant, a move made to cut production costs and tighten operational control without changing the total installed capacity.
- Products that seal a bottle - the factory turns out Crown Caps (the metal closures on glass bottles), CSD Closures (plastic caps for carbonated soft drinks), PET Preforms, PET Bottles, PET Jars and Containers, all of which end up packaging carbonated soft drinks, fruit juices, milk products and beer.
- Raw materials tied to oil prices - the key inputs for PET manufacturing are Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) and Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), both of which depend heavily on the price and availability of crude oil and natural gas, so the company's input costs move with global energy markets.
- Summer is the season - the main selling season runs through the summer months starting in the first calendar quarter, which means any single quarter's numbers can mislead someone trying to read the full-year picture.
- Cost-saving, not lab-coat R&D - the company calls itself technology-driven but does no specific in-house R&D; instead it uses improved machinery to reduce product weight without compromising quality and to cut wastage, while a separate cost-saving department works through expenses line by line to find deviations.
2. Real estate: a revenue share from a Gurgaon commercial complex
The company does not build property itself - it has parked money with a related developer and collects a slice of the revenue from a nearly complete commercial project.
- A related-party arrangement - the real-estate activity runs through AMD Estates & Developers Private Limited, a related company that is developing a commercial complex at Sector-114, Gurgaon, in collaboration with VSR Infratech Private Limited.
- An advance, not an operating business - AMD Industries has given a non-interest-bearing advance of Rs. 1,330.64 lakhs (as of March 2024) to the developer against a share of the project's revenue, and by the FY24 report date the complex was almost complete with some units already handed over or sold.
- Small, lumpy receipts - the company booked revenue of Rs. 40.84 lakhs from this project in FY22 and Rs. 174.75 lakhs in FY20, which shows the income arrives in chunks rather than as a steady stream.
Group structure and partners
AMD Industries is a standalone company with no subsidiaries or joint ventures, controlled by the founding Gupta family and run by a six-member board.
- No corporate children - the company has no associate, joint venture or subsidiary companies, making it a pure standalone entity with a single related company, AMD Estates & Developers Private Limited, used for the real-estate revenue-sharing arrangement.
- Family at the helm - founder Ashok Gupta serves as Chairman and Whole-Time Director, while his son Adit Gupta is Managing Director; Adit trained at Sacmi in Italy on beverage-packaging trends in plastics and crowns manufacturing.
- A recent acquisition move - in October 2025 the board approved buying a 100% stake in Hindustan Autoplast Private Limited, a promoter-group entity that makes plastic auto components, for Rs. 15 lakhs; the target was still at an initial stage with its project yet to be set up.
