- Historical market volatility: Macroeconomic challenges like geopolitical conflicts, high crude oil prices, rupee depreciation, and foreign institutional outflows have occurred six times over the past 27 years. Such four- to five-year cyclical downturns are normal, and long-term compounding occurs alongside these phases.
- Direct equity underperformance: An analysis of 4,000 direct equity portfolios showed that 3,000 lagged behind the mutual fund model portfolio. When the top three concentrated holdings were removed, 850 of the remaining 1,000 portfolios also failed to outperform mutual funds.
- Small-cap earnings trajectory: Nifty Smallcap 250 delivered 37.06% earnings growth in Q1, tracking ahead of the full-year estimated growth rate of 27% toward approximately ₹677. Continued earnings growth alongside stagnant stock prices acts like a compressed spring poised for a future recovery.
- Institutional liquidity dynamics: Domestic institutional investors maintained an estimated cash pile of ₹1,87,000 crore as of September 28 despite continuous daily buying over 180 days. Foreign institutional inflows are expected to improve as India's weight in the MSCI index potentially rises to 12.1% in the November review.
