- Credit growth capacity: Indian scheduled commercial banks generated nearly 4 lakh crore in profit in FY24–25 and added close to 3 lakh crore to net worth, positioning the financial system to comfortably support an estimated 15% credit expansion on a 185 lakh crore base.
- MSME financing strategy: As large corporates remain under-leveraged and generate high internal cash flows, banks are expanding MSME credit via alternative underwriting like GST data and digital platforms, including Axis Bank’s A-Trades platform which handles approximately 10,000 crore in discounting across 62 financiers.
- Retail credit penetration: India's retail credit-to-GDP ratio stands at 45–47% compared to 60% in China, indicating the retail market is still under-leveraged, though lenders must actively monitor emerging risks from geopolitical conflicts and potential AI-led job disruptions.
- Physical branch footprint: Axis Bank continues to open 400 to 500 branches annually to establish customer trust, while redesigning formats into compact 150-square-foot single-desk sales outlets and piloting locker-only facilities in high-density residential areas.
- FinTech ecosystem engagement: Axis Bank acts as the primary bank for 80% of FinTech unicorns and partners with 50% of funded FinTechs, while processing 40% of NEFT, 30% of IMPS, and 20% of Bharat Bill Payment System market volumes.
