Balaji Phosphates is fundamentally a phosphate-fertilizer manufacturer that has spent nearly three decades turning rock phosphate and acid into the crop nutrition Indian farmers rely on - a business built around a single integrated plant in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, and a distribution network that reaches from its home state into the surrounding agricultural belt. It began in 1996 as a private company, became a public entity in 2023, and listed on the NSE Emerge platform in March 2025, using the IPO proceeds to strengthen the manufacturing base that has always been its centre of gravity. The recurring approach is simple: make the core phosphate product, sell it through a mix of private dealers and government cooperatives, and collect the government subsidy that keeps the end price affordable for farmers - then bolt on small, adjacent capabilities in weighing systems and organic manure that share the same rural customer world. # Business segments One dominant engine - phosphate fertilizers - that generates the revenue the company stands on, flanked by two small subsidiaries that extend the same rural footprint into weighing equipment and organic inputs. ## 1. Phosphate fertilizers: the crop-nutrition engine **A single Dewas plant making SSP, NPK blends and zinc sulphate, sold under the RATNAM and BPPL brands through hundreds of dealers and state cooperatives across central and western India - with the government paying part of the bill.** - **One plant, three product lines** - the Dewas facility can produce 120,000 metric tonnes per annum of Single Super Phosphate (SSP) and 3,300 tonnes of Zinc Sulphate, with NPK blends mixed in grades like 12:32:06 and 15:05:05 to suit different soils and crops. SSP is made by reacting rock phosphate with sulfuric acid, delivering phosphorus and sulphur - both essential for root growth and crop quality - at a cost farmers can bear. - **Subsidy makes the price work** - under the Nutrient-Based Subsidy policy, the government pays a subsidy on every bag of P&K fertilizer sold through retailers to farmers, and the company must print the maximum retail price plus the subsidy amount on each bag; selling above that MRP is punishable under the Essential Commodities Act. That is how a product whose input costs fluctuate stays affordable at the village retailer. - **Dealers and cooperatives, side by side** - the company reaches farmers through a multi-layered network of private dealers, wholesalers and retailers, while also supplying state-level cooperatives and government procurement agencies that buy in bulk for distribution, giving BPL large, stable order volumes alongside its everyday dealer trade. The network spans Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, with exports reaching Jakarta, Nepal, Tanzania and Ethiopia. - **Farmer pull, not just push** - the company runs field demonstrations, awareness campaigns and agricultural fairs to build trust in the RATNAM and BPPL brands, and has a research tie-up with Navsari Agricultural University to stay credible on agronomy. Its products go into cereals, oilseeds, pulses and cash crops, so demand tracks the monsoon and the planting calendar. - **Built to scale** - the Dewas plant sits on 12,600 square metres in an industrial area on the A.B. Road, with a layout designed for future expansion and processes that recycle water and treat effluent, reducing fresh-water dependence. Proximity to raw-material sources and key agricultural markets keeps inbound and outbound logistics tight. ## 2. Weighing systems: a precision-engineering sideline for the same rural customer **A wholly-owned subsidiary that makes truck weighbridges and Weighing-in-Motion systems - a small, patent-protected business with only three competitors in India, earning once on installation and again on maintenance contracts.** - **A patent that keeps competitors out** - Jyoti Weighing Systems holds a patent on its Weighing-in-Motion design and has tied up for Swiss-Plate WIM technology, which it describes as far more accurate and reliable than the Chinese alternatives used by two of the other three players in the country. That makes BPL the only Indian company using Swiss engineering for WIM, giving it a genuine technical edge in a four-player market. - **Sold once, serviced for years** - the business earns upfront revenue when a weighbridge or WIM system is installed, then collects recurring fees from Annual Maintenance Contracts covering calibration, software upgrades and repairs over a system life of roughly 12 to 15 years. A 35-metre, 80,000-kilogram truck weighbridge designed and exported to Tanzania was recognized by the India Book of Records as India's largest weighbridge, signalling the subsidiary can handle large, custom jobs. - **Two types, many sites** - the subsidiary makes both pit-less (surface-mounted) and pit-type (ground-level) weighbridges, so it can serve sites with different space and civil-work constraints. The customer base overlaps with the agricultural and logistics world that the parent already knows, though the parent has only one segment and the subsidiary’s revenue is included in consolidated financials without a separate segment. ## 3. Organic manure: an early-stage bolt-on **A subsidiary in the process of acquiring an organic-fertilizer business, adding a soil-health product to the portfolio.** - **Acquisition-led entry** - Divya Jyoti Agritech Private Limited is engaged in manufacturing and dealing in organic manure, and the parent is in the process of acquiring an organic fertilizer company to build out this leg. The move extends the brand into the organic-soil-conditioner space without diverting the main plant's capacity. # Group structure and partners **A listed parent with two subsidiaries - one making weighing equipment, one building an organic-manure business - plus a promoter-group warehouse arrangement that keeps storage costs at zero.** - Jyoti Weighing Systems Pvt. Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary designing and manufacturing weighbridges and WIM systems, consolidated into BPL's financials. - Divya Jyoti Agritech Private Limited will become a subsidiary engaged in organic manure, with an acquisition underway to scale it. - The company had entered into an agreement dated 07.03.2025 with Divyashakti Foods Pvt Ltd, a promoter-group entity, to construct a warehouse; under the arrangement, until construction finished, Divyashakti Foods was to provide storage space without rent or charges. - A research tie-up with Navsari Agricultural University supports product development and farmer-education efforts on the fertilizer side.
