Key Takeaways
- H1 growth slowed to 13%, but H2 is loaded: Production lost 15-20 days to rains and audits, and export orders worth Rs.10-12 crores slipped into October. Management expects to cross Rs.100 crores in export revenue in H2 and hit the full-year 20-25% growth target.
- Gross margins compressed on mix, not distress: Gross margin fell 1.5% to 51.35% as low-margin Platins and newly launched products grew faster. Management controls Platin margin dilution by limiting supply to a fraction of demand.
- The regulatory engine is scaling fast: 43 registrations received and 80 dossiers filed in the last six months, with a target of 150 more dossiers in 18 months. The regulatory team is doubling, and 11 products are moving into bioequivalence studies for regulated markets.
- Backward integration and new modalities are the next leg: An oncology intermediate plant was acquired to reduce China dependency, the first in-licensed aesthetic filler was registered, and the company is entering biosimilars with NDAs already signed.
- What to watch next quarter: Whether the EU audit is confirmed by mid-December for a January-March inspection, the pace of export order conversion in H2, and any margin recovery as newer products mature into their second and third years.
The H1 Slowdown: Timing, Not Demand
- Production lost 15-20 days: Unseasonal rains across North India and two full-plant audits (Mexico's COFAPRIS and Colombia's INVIMA, together taking 12 days) compressed output. Both audits were completed successfully without critical observations.
- Export orders slipped, not lost: Rs.10-12 crores of export orders could not be processed by September and will be dispatched in October/November. The export market is tender-driven, with most tenders issued in October-November, awards in December, and sales reflecting in January-March, so H2 is structurally heavier.
- GST billing change added friction: Sales halted for 5-7 days as billing systems were updated and revised GST rate advertisements were issued. Management stated no sales were lost, only built up later.
- CDMO grew 8%, no partner lost: The CDMO business added partners with add-on products. The total deficit versus the 20-25% target was "a little bit from the CDMO side and majorly from the export side."
Rahul Batra: "today we have got a call from NSE and they have said that they will be giving principal approval to migrate to the main board. So maximum 10 days, we will be migrating on NSE's main board."
Gross Margin: Mix Pressure, Managed Dilution
- Product mix drove the 1.5% decline: CDMO products cannot be kept constant and some face price erosion. Demand for Platin groups requires supplying all products in the basket, and Platins carry gross contributions of 10-15% versus 50-70% on other products.
- Platin supply is deliberately constrained: Where demand is 10,000 vials, the company supplies only 2,000-3,000 vials to control margin dilution while still capturing growth. Price increases are passed on across all divisions, but the mix effect persists.
- New products follow a margin curve: Products carry low margins in their first year, pick up pace in the second, and contribute more in the third. Management expects this cycle to "overpass the product which has less margins" as the portfolio matures.
- Beta standalone margins fell sharply for a structural reason: Domestic sales (branded and CDMO) have been shifted to the Adley formulation plant, leaving Beta standalone with higher expenses as it prepares 11 products for regulated market filings. Adley's EBITDA margins have increased significantly as a result. This split will reverse once regulated market sales start flowing through the Beta plant.
Rahul Batra: "what we do is that supposing the demand is for 10,000 vials, so, we tend to give only 2,000, 3,000 vials only. So, this is how we are controlling our margins in spite of getting a growth in the sales also."
Regulatory & Filing Engine
- 43 registrations received, 80 dossiers filed in six months: Total dossiers filed now stand at ~148, with a target to file 150 more in the coming 18 months. The regulatory team is being doubled and all regulatory work will be handled from the head office, with six new people being inducted.
- COFAPRIS (Mexico) audit cleared: 16 dossiers already filed, with 15 more to be filed in the next six months. INVIMA (Colombia) audit for injectables also cleared, with 10 doses ready to file by year-end. The first international audit at the Adley lab (from Mexico) was completed and CAPA submitted.
- 11 products ready for bioequivalence: Clinical development plans are done and a CRO is being selected. Cost is estimated at ~Rs.15 crores. BES is expected to be completed in six to eight months, after which dossiers will be ready for filing in regulated markets.
- Europe approval expected January-March: The long-delayed Europe approval is now expected in Q1 of next year. Preparations for doses and product development for Europe and all regulated markets have already started. The facility will be the first cytotoxic suspension plant inspected by Europe, giving it an edge as a premier cytotoxic player globally.
New Capabilities: Intermediates, Aesthetics, Biosimilars
- Oncology intermediate plant acquired: A facility 50-70 meters from the current API plant was acquired for backward integration. It already holds a license. The R&D team has started developing from intermediates to KSM, and the facility will be built up over six to eight months, reducing dependency on the China market and strengthening DMFs.
- First in-licensed aesthetic filler registered: An Italian company's filler was signed last year, registered in October 2025, and CMEs are now underway with Italian doctors training Indian doctors. A Meso-Fills product is also being registered, which will be the first registered Meso-Fills product in India, replacing unregistered Korean imports with a European-sourced product. Combined target sales of Rs.50-100 crores in three to five years.
- Derma division target of Rs.30-50 crores: Currently focused on 24 SKUs reaching certain value thresholds before adding more.
- Biosimilars entry initiated: Talks are underway and some NDAs have been signed. Management stated no oncology company is complete without biosimilars and expects to launch some biosimilars in the coming three to four years, but declined to give specifics until deals are official.
Rahul Batra: "So, this will be the first registered product in India, which will be having some vitamins from the European company."
Working Capital & Balance Sheet
- Receivable days rose marginally: From 103 to 108 days, and inventory days from 60 to 65. The net increase in working capital days was only 3 days, which management considers marginal given volume growth. The absolute increase in receivables is driven by volume, not collection deterioration.
- Land purchases sit in advances: Short-term loans and advances increased because land was purchased for the intermediate plant and a corporate R&D center, but registry is not yet complete, so the spend sits in advances rather than fixed assets.
- NSE main board migration imminent: Principal approval from NSE has been received, and migration is expected within 10 days.
Product & R&D Pipeline
- First NDDS of Methotrexate oral solution approved: The first and only company to get this approval in India after three years of effort. Two more NDDS are expected to be launched next year, again first time in India.
- Three new drugs filed with in-house API: These will drive domestic market growth for the next three to five years. Four more new products are under development at the API plant and will be given to formulations for launch in the next two years.
- Two new products delivered to formulation plant: Ready to launch this year.
- R&D exports expected to "kick off well" in the coming two years: Management is targeting being at least the second or third generic to enter each regulated market for oral cytotoxic products.
Rahul Batra: "every product has a cycle. So, once you launch a product, first year, it is always low, second year, it picks up the pace, then third year, that product will contribute more margins. So, this will overpass the product which has less margins."
