Ester Industries Ltd Growth Catalysts - SOIC x StockScans Report
as of Aug 2026
- VAS films mix shift - Value-added films reached 29% of film volumes in Q1 FY27 (6,368 MT, up 23% YoY), and management targets \~50-60% of volumes over 2-3 years. VAS products sell at a premium of INR25/kg to well above commodity film, so each 10-point mix shift adds roughly INR25-30 crore of film-segment EBIT at current volumes.
- BOPET margin recovery - Spreads on 12-micron film held at INR28-30/kg in Q1 FY27, up from INR19-20/kg a year earlier, with management expecting them to sustain for 18-24 months on Chinese anti-involution policy and Indian antidumping duties. At 84% utilisation, every INR1/kg of spread improvement adds \~INR9 crore of annual EBIT on 108 KTPA capacity.
- rPET capacity ramp-up - The new 20,000 MTPA Hyderabad extruder (commissioned Sep-2025) lifts rated rPET capacity to \~28,000-30,000 TPA, and management expects to run above 100% of rated capacity by the exit quarter of FY27. rPET revenue grew 3.7x to INR59.3 crore in FY26, and recycled BOPET margins are "much higher" than commodity film, with PWMR mandating 30% PCR in rigid packaging from Apr-2025.
- Specialty Polymers volume recovery - Q1 FY27 revenue fell 32% YoY to INR32.7 crore on lower volumes, but EBIT margin expanded to 45.3% and management targets 20% CAGR over 3-5 years, with INR200 crore revenue guided for FY27. The segment operates at only 25-30% of 30 KTPA capacity, so volume recovery to even 50% utilisation implies INR400-500 crore revenue potential at current margins.
- Ester Filmtech turnaround - The 100% subsidiary hit 83% capacity utilisation in Q1 FY27 (highest ever), with EBITDA of INR19.5 crore versus a INR2.7 crore loss a year ago and PAT positive at INR4.7 crore. Management has guided FY27 revenue of INR400-500 crore with sustainable 18-20% EBITDA margins, versus INR455 crore and 12.4% adjusted EBITDA in FY26.
- Debt reduction - Management targets repaying \~INR100 crore of gross debt in FY27, taking it from INR722 crore to \~INR620 crore, with no major capex planned beyond sustenance. At a 9-10% cost of funds, that cut saves \~INR9-10 crore of annual interest, flowing almost entirely to PAT given the current 1.05x interest coverage.
- PWMR-driven substrate shift - Plastic Waste Management Rules mandating 10% PCR in flexible packaging (rising to 20% in FY28) are pushing brands to switch from BOPP to BOPET, the only food-grade substrate with sufficient recycled content. India BOPET demand is growing 8-10% annually against only 2-3 new lines expected over 2 years, tightening supply just as Ester's rPET integration makes it a preferred supplier.
