Holmarc Opto-Mechatronics is a maker of precision scientific instruments - the kind of equipment that lets a university researcher analyse a new material or a factory inspector check the quality of a drug. Founded in 1993 in Kochi and now listed on the NSE’s SME platform, the company has spent three decades building the in-house ability to design and manufacture across optics, mechanics, electronics and software under one roof. The recurring approach is simple: develop products that foreign competitors sell at high prices, make them in India with more than 60% value addition at its own factory, and offer them at roughly half the import price - a formula that has won it customers at institutions like IISc Bangalore, BARC Mumbai and IIT Madras. # Business segments A single engine - designing and manufacturing scientific instruments for research, industry and education - sold through direct relationships, a growing dealer network and government tenders, with exports to 60 countries. ## 1. Scientific instruments: where India’s labs get their tools **The company makes the measurement and imaging equipment that research institutes and factory quality labs buy instead of importing - and it can sell at half the foreign price because it builds nearly everything itself.** - **Five disciplines under one roof** - the company’s manufacturing spans optics, mechanics, photonics, electronics and software, so it can produce complete instruments rather than just components. Its product range covers spectroscopy, microscopy, holography and thin-film systems, including microscopes, Raman spectrometers, spin coaters and contact-angle meters. - **Indigenous manufacture cuts the price in half** - by designing and building in Kochi rather than importing, the company priced its spectrophotometer with diffuse-reflectance capability at roughly 50% of what foreign competitors charge. During FY25 it also built 14 pieces of its own capital equipment in-house - polishing machines, a reflectometer, a vibration analyser - rather than buying them. - **Research-grade products for demanding buyers** - a single Raman spectrometer sells for ₹25-50 lakh, and the company shipped nine of them in FY25 alongside 47 spin coaters and 34 contact-angle meters. Its top ten customers in FY24 included IISc Bangalore, BARC Mumbai, IIT Madras and IIT Delhi - only two were private-sector buyers. - **Moving into biology and diagnostics** - the company began developing PCR and RT-PCR products in December 2023, initially for the research market with a plan to enter healthcare later, and is re-engineering its microscopes for clinical and diagnostic use. It also completed an automated microscopic image-analysis system for a clinical-diagnosis OEM, though commercial production has not yet started. - **A factory that keeps more of the work inside** - value addition at the company’s own facility exceeds 60%, and its inventory at March 2025 showed raw materials of ₹225.95 lakh, work-in-progress of ₹180.29 lakh and finished goods of just ₹85.45 lakh - a sign that most of what it sells is built to order rather than stocked. ## 2. Sales and distribution: direct to scientists, dealers for reach, and tenders for the public sector **The company reaches its customers through three channels - direct relationships with research institutes, a fast-growing network of 63 new Indian dealers, and a 61% success rate on government tenders - while exports now touch 60 countries.** - **Direct sales to the institutions that matter** - historically, most Indian sales went straight to government research centres and universities, and the company’s top-ten customer list in FY24 was dominated by names like the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, the Laboratory for Electro Optics Systems and the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology. - **Dealers for wider reach** - during FY25 the company added 63 new dealers across India and strengthened its international dealer base, supplementing its direct-sales model and its own online store at e-holmarc.com. - **Winning public-sector bids** - the company participated in 233 government tenders during FY25 and won 142, a success rate of 61%. In FY24 it bid on 111 contracts through the Government e-Marketplace and won 59. - **Exports to 60 countries, led by the USA** - export revenue rose 15.69% in FY25, with the USA as the top destination at ₹95.35 lakh from 29 buyers; Germany surged 135.68%. The strongest export categories were analytical instruments and lab equipment. - **A private-sector shift underway** - in FY25, the share of turnover coming from private-sector customers reached 42.56%, a deliberate move to diversify beyond the government and institutional base. # Group structure and partners **Holmarc is a single-entity company with no subsidiaries or joint ventures, run by a founding team that combines technical and operational experience, and it is expanding its factory footprint through land acquisitions in Kerala’s industrial estates.** - The company is a standalone legal entity listed on the NSE Emerge SME platform, with no subsidiaries, associates or joint ventures. - Managing Director Jolly Cyriac leads the business; Whole-Time Director Jaya Jolly oversees purchase verification and inventory management; Whole-Time Director Gopala Kurup Unnikrishna Kurup brings over 50 years of experience including 35 years at FACT, a Government of India enterprise. - Ishach Sainuddin, a mechanical-engineering graduate, controls finance and procurement of raw materials, machinery and tools. - The company operates from the HMT Industrial Estate in Kalamassery, Kochi, and has been acquiring adjacent land and sheds: 10.625 cents in August 2025 and 28.5 cents with the A4 shed in September 2025, both for expanding its scientific-equipment manufacturing. - In June 2026 the board approved purchase of a 101-cent industrial unit at Edayar Industrial Estate to add 100 MT of capacity, increase microscope production and produce more precision components, with a ₹6 crore investment funded through internal resources and an SBI CGTMSE loan.
