HPL Electric & Power Ltd Growth Catalysts - SOIC x StockScans Report
as of Aug 2026
- Smart metering order book execution - The order book stood at ₹3,200+ crore as of 7 August 2026, \~96% smart metering, covering roughly three years of segment revenue at current run rate. Metering revenue recovered 49.9% sequentially from Q1 to Q4 FY26, and Q1 FY27 grew 16.5% YoY - execution of this backlog alone sustains the largest revenue engine for FY27-FY28.
- C&I channel expansion - C&I revenue hit ₹277.59 crore in Q1 FY27, up 55% YoY, with retailer touchpoints at 85,000+ and a target of 1,00,000 by March 2026. Management targets crossing ₹1,000 crore C&I revenue in FY27 and doubling the business in 3-4 years - this is the second engine, now at \~54% of revenue.
- Wires & cables volume growth - Q1 FY27 Wires & Cables revenue was ₹145.75 crore, up 78.6% YoY, over 40% of full FY26 revenue in a single quarter, with demand broad-based across five channels. Management's FY27 anchor is volume growth sustained above 30% YoY - copper tonnage usage is already 1.5-2x year-ago levels.
- Capex transition to maintenance mode - Most metering capex is "more or less done"; from FY27 onwards, mainly maintenance capex. With FY26 capex of \~₹100 crore largely behind, cash flow should improve as depreciation stays flat while growth continues - the consumer segment's \~3-month working capital cycle adds to free cash flow.
- Smart water metering launch - 'Neeram Pulse' smart water meters launched 29 January 2026 with a dedicated Gurugram facility, BIS mark obtained, pilot testing underway. Marginal revenues expected from H2 FY27, meaningful revenues in 1-2 years - a new vertical leveraging existing metering R&D and manufacturing.
- Switchgear automation and new products - New MCB machine does the work of 44 workers, runs 24 hours almost without personnel; 7-8 such automation machines installed with 3-4 year ROI. New ATS 370/390 and ACB launches target the changeover segment where HPL holds \~50% share, with DECA certification enabling sales to \~55 countries.
- Smart metering international expansion - A Middle East utility has approved HPL's metering; a dedicated export team is exploring two countries with international certifications targeted within \~12 months. UK and Europe FTAs reduce import duties, positioning India as a manufacturing base for European customers.
- Lighting recovery with price increase - Lighting & Electronics revenue grew 78.1% YoY to ₹56.19 crore in Q1 FY27, with the first price increase in 7-8 years passed on to channel. After several softer quarters, pricing power plus new product launches (LED streetlights, solar lighting) support margin recovery.
- Backward integration of smart meter components - Working on backward integration of relays and other critical smart meter components not yet manufactured in India, driven by government directives for maximum domestic content. This addresses the margin pressure visible in metering EBIT (17.67% to 14.18% YoY in Q1 FY27) while securing supply chains with semiconductor lead times up to 52 weeks.
