H T Media Ltd Growth Catalysts - SOIC x StockScans Report
as of Aug 2026
- Warrant issue debt retirement - All 3.88 crore warrants were allotted on 20 Aug 2026 at ₹24.57, raising ₹95.3 crore with 25% paid upfront; management targets retiring 30-50% of consolidated debt, which sits at ₹662 crore against ₹125 crore EBITDA. Retiring debt at this scale is directly accretive to EPS and interest coverage, and the remaining 75% exercise money is committed within 12-18 months.
- Print ad yield growth - Q1 FY27 print advertising revenue grew 15% to ₹295 crore, driven substantially by pricing/yield rather than volumes, with government rates raised for the first time in seven years. Print EBITDA margin hit 13% in Q1 FY27 versus 4% a year ago, and management calls this a baseline for modelling - pricing-led growth flows through at high incremental margin.
- Hindi print momentum - HMVL advertising revenue grew 20% y-o-y to ₹139 crore in Q1 FY27, with HMVL EBITDA up 109% to ₹75 crore at a 31% margin. This is the largest single growth engine in the portfolio, and the margin expansion shows operating leverage on a largely fixed cost base.
- Radio loss elimination - Six loss-making FM licenses were surrendered, including Radio Nasha Mumbai, Radio One Delhi/Mumbai/Bangalore and Fever Chennai, with closure estimated by 15 June 2026; all remaining frequencies are profitable. Radio EBITDA improved from -₹7 crore to -₹3 crore in Q1 FY27, and removing the remaining loss-makers plus the FY26 ₹33 crore exceptional charge should push the segment toward breakeven.
- OTTplay shutdown - The OTTplay business was discontinued effective 31 March 2026, though marginal losses may still appear in FY2027 as existing subscriptions are serviced. This removes a business that lost ₹87.7 crore after tax in FY26 - at current EBITDA of ₹125 crore, eliminating that drag alone more than doubles reported profitability.
- English circulation pricing - English circulation revenue grew 14% y-o-y to ₹13 crore in Q1 FY27, driven mostly by pricing and mix, with steady-state copy levels maintained. Realization per copy is intact while the company rationalizes unproductive copies and adds only where ad revenue follows - a direct margin lever on a small but high-quality revenue line.
- Shine AI tools - Shine has launched a recruiter copilot that automates candidate screening, and is integrating generative AI across its platform. With over 5 crore candidate profiles, AI-driven matching and screening can raise monetization per user without proportional cost, supporting the digital segment's path from -₹3 crore EBITDA toward profitability.
- AFE monetisation - The company actively seeks secondary transactions to monetize its advertisement-for-equity portfolio, which includes stakes in Jasper Infotech, Oravel Stays and Mobikwik. AFE forfeiture revenue already drove other operating income, and any successful divestiture converts a non-cash asset into cash at a time when the balance sheet carries ₹662 crore of debt.
