ITC Limited is a century-old Indian conglomerate that has turned a tobacco monopoly into a diversified consumer and agri-business powerhouse, guided by a single recurring logic: use the cash flows of one engine to build the next. What began in 1910 as the Imperial Tobacco Company of India has, over the last two decades, grown its non-cigarette businesses more than 31-fold by applying its deep sourcing, manufacturing and distribution strengths to new categories - from packaged wheat flour to luxury hotels. The approach that explains everything else is “Responsible Competitiveness” - building extreme scale in a way that replenishes the environment and supports livelihoods, a discipline that has made it the only enterprise of its size to be water, carbon and solid-waste positive for over two decades. # Business segments Five engines at different stages - a hydrocarbon cash cow, two consumer platforms at national scale, and a green-energy bet under construction - each built with the cash flows of the one before. ## 1. Cigarettes: where the group’s cash comes from **A portfolio of powerful trademarks, an integrated seed-to-smoke chain and a punitive tax regime that makes the legal business a fortress few can enter.** - **The brands are the moat** - the business operates under trademarks including ‘Classic’, ‘Gold Flake’, ‘American Club’, ‘Players’ and ‘Wills’, with a steady stream of new variants like Classic Clove and Gold Flake Social 2-Pod keeping the portfolio fresh. - **Everything from leaf to pack** - it runs its own leaf-tobacco sourcing, state-of-the-art Industry 4.0 factories and packaging supply, so quality and security of supply are controlled end-to-end. - **Taxation shapes the playing field** - India’s legal cigarette industry faces a punitive and discriminatory tax regime, with GST on cigarettes rising from 28% of transaction value to 40% of retail sale price along with a steep hike in excise duties effective 1st February, 2026, which makes the legal product expensive and fuels a vast illicit market. - **Illicit trade is the real competitor** - India is the world’s fourth-largest illicit cigarette market, costing the exchequer roughly Rs. 23,000 crore a year and accounting for about a third of the legal industry, so the company constantly re-architects its portfolio and takes agile pricing actions to defend its position. ## 2. Branded packaged foods: a national pantry built on institutional muscle **Over 30 brands reaching nearly 280 million households, anchored on the insight that the same sourcing, packaging and cuisine expertise that powers the group can create a food company from scratch.** - **Aashirvaad is the anchor** - the brand is number one in branded atta (wheat flour) and has expanded into salt, spices, vermicelli and ready-to-cook breads, with value-added variants now roughly 16% of the staples portfolio and growing fast. - **Snacking built category by category** - Sunfeast leads cream biscuits, Bingo! leads the bridges segment of snack foods and potato wafers in South India, and YiPPee! is a strong number two in instant noodles, each brand carved out against entrenched incumbents. - **Bought, not just built** - acquisitions of 24 Mantra (organic foods), Yogabar (nutrition bars), Mother Sparsh (baby care) and Prasuma/Meatigo (frozen foods) added a combined annual revenue run-rate of over Rs. 1,350 crore and brought digital-first brands into the fold. - **The R&D engine underneath** - the ITC Life Sciences & Technology Centre, with over 400 scientists and 900-plus patents, develops everything from millet-based snacks to AI-powered skin advisors, so new products are science-backed rather than just me-too launches. ## 3. Agri business: the sourcing backbone that is also a standalone exporter **An annual throughput of roughly four million tonnes across 22 states, feeding the group’s own factories and exporting to the world.** - **Feeds the FMCG engine** - it supplies benchmark-quality wheat for Aashirvaad atta, milk for the fresh dairy portfolio, spices for Sunrise and Aashirvaad brands, and fruit pulp and frozen vegetables for B Natural and Farmland, so the consumer businesses get traceable, quality-controlled raw materials. - **Leaf tobacco is the original export** - it is India’s largest exporter of unmanufactured tobacco, operating three green-leaf threshing plants whose energy needs are substantially met from renewable sources. - **Value-added agri products are scaling** - the portfolio of spices, coffee, frozen marine products and horticulture has grown 1.4 times over two years, with organic spice volumes more than doubling as certified cultivation programmes expand. - **ITCMAARS is the digital bridge to the farmer** - a crop-agnostic super-app available in eight languages connects over 2.6 million farmers and 2,100 Farmer Producer Organisations, offering AI-driven crop advisories, market linkages and pre-approved loans, with about 40% of wheat for Aashirvaad now sourced directly through the platform. ## 4. Paperboards, paper and packaging: the fibre-to-box engine **An integrated operation with secure access to fibre, in-house pulp and world-class converting facilities, sustaining leadership in value-added paperboard and eco-labelled products.** - **Wood security from its own plantations** - the business achieved its highest-ever plantation coverage of around 66,000 hectares in FY26 and is India’s leading supplier of FSC-certified paper and paperboards, procuring nearly 3.17 lakh tonnes of certified wood. - **Sustainable packaging is the growth vector** - the ‘Filo’ series of recyclable, compostable barrier-coated boards and the ‘Fusion’ range that replaces plastic foam board have grown the sustainable portfolio roughly 2.3 times over four years, while a new moulded-fibre facility makes products from renewable natural fibres. - **Packaging serves the group and the market** - the packaging and printing business supplies carton and flexible packaging to leading customers across food, personal care, pharma and electronics, while also giving ITC’s own FMCG and cigarette businesses faster turnaround and security of supply. - **A big acquisition is in motion** - a business transfer agreement to acquire Century Pulp and Paper at Lalkuan, with an installed capacity of 4.8 lakh tonnes per annum, has received regulatory approvals and will deepen the fibre base. ## 5. Hotels: an asset-right hospitality platform now standing on its own **Over 150 hotels with more than 14,200 keys across seven brands, demerged into a separately listed company with a zero-debt balance sheet.** - **Green hoteliering at scale** - the chain has the world’s largest footprint of LEED Platinum certified properties, the first 12 LEED Zero Carbon hotels and 12 LEED Zero Water hotels, making sustainability a genuine differentiator for global travellers. - **Signature cuisine as a brand** - restaurant brands like Bukhara, Dum Pukht, Dakshin and Avartana are destinations in themselves, and the first international property, ITC Ratnadipa in Colombo, opened in April 2024 with 352 rooms. - **Demerger gave it independence** - effective January 2025, the hotels business was listed separately as ITC Hotels Limited, with about 60% held directly by ITC shareholders and Rs. 1,500 crore of cash transferred to fund growth, leaving it debt-free. # Group structure and partners **A parent company with three focused business groups, a ring of wholly owned subsidiaries in IT services and advanced manufacturing, and a portfolio of acquired digital-first brands being folded in.** - **Three business groups at the core** - the corporate strategy is organised around FMCG, Paperboards, Paper & Packaging, and Agri Business, with the hotels business now demerged into separately listed ITC Hotels Limited. - **Wholly owned manufacturing and tech arms** - ITC Infotech is a fast-growing IT services firm with a presence in over 35 countries and industry-leading margins; ITC Fibre Innovations makes moulded-fibre sustainable packaging; and ITC IndiVision manufactures nicotine and nicotine-derivative products to US and EU pharmacopoeia standards at Mysuru. - **Acquisitions becoming subsidiaries** - 24 Mantra (organic foods) was amalgamated into ITC in June 2025, Sproutlife Foods Private Limited became a subsidiary in April 2026, and definitive agreements are in place to acquire full control of Mother Sparsh and Ample Foods (Prasuma/Meatigo) over time. - **International and legacy holdings** - Surya Nepal Private Limited operates cigarettes, agarbatti and confectionery in Nepal, while financial investments in EIH Ltd. (16.13%) and HLV Ltd. (8.11%) were retained by ITC and not transferred to the hotels entity.
