Jio Financial Services is a digital-first financial platform built to serve the four core money needs of Indian households - borrowing, investing, transacting and protecting - all through a single app. It was carved out of Reliance Industries Limited in 2023, listed on the stock exchanges, and then restructured as a holding company that owns and partners with a family of regulated financial businesses. The recurring approach is to enter a regulated financial business, build it on a clean, cloud-native technology stack with no legacy systems, and then distribute it through the Jio ecosystem’s vast digital and physical reach - a playbook the company calls its “right-to-win”.
Business segments
A single financial platform expressed through four regulated engines - lending, payments, asset management and insurance - all fed by one shared digital storefront and a common technology backbone.
1. Lending: the balance-sheet engine that funds homes, businesses and solar panels
A digital-only NBFC that writes secured loans to prime retail borrowers and highly-rated companies, keeping credit risk low while scaling fast.
- Secured lending only - the loan book is split between mortgages (45% of assets), corporate loans (44%) and loans against shares and mutual funds (11%), all backed by collateral, which keeps defaults in check.
- Digital from application to disbursal - the entire loan journey is paperless, powered by a cloud-based loan system built on low-code platforms, so the core NBFC systems were up and running in under 90 days.
- Cheap money because of the parentage - the company borrows at an average cost of 7.00%, with 72% coming from bank loans and the rest from bonds and commercial paper, helped by a “AAA” credit rating and a capital adequacy ratio of nearly 26%.
- Sold where the customers already are - home loans are distributed through digital real-estate marketplaces and Reliance Retail’s physical stores, while loans against securities reach customers through wealth management firms and partner banks.
2. Payments: a payments bank and a merchant network rolled into one
A two-sided payments engine that holds customer deposits on one side and processes merchant transactions on the other, with a distribution network of over 378,000 touchpoints.
- A bank account that sweeps spare cash into mutual funds - the payments bank offers a savings account called Savings Pro that automatically invests any balance above a customer-set threshold into overnight debt funds, with instant redemption of up to Rs. 50,000.
- The toll-collector for India’s highways - the bank is an acquirer for the government’s multi-lane free-flow toll system, having won four of the eight mandates awarded and operating 18 toll plazas across eight states.
- Merchant payments with a voice - the payment aggregator arm, JPSL, built JioSoundPay, a voice-based payment alert system that works on JioBharat feature phones, so even small shopkeepers with basic handsets can accept UPI.
- Onboarded in five minutes - the payments core was rebuilt on a cloud-native SaaS architecture, letting small merchants go live with AI-driven onboarding in under five minutes.
3. Asset management: a direct-only mutual fund built with the world’s largest asset manager
A 50:50 joint venture with BlackRock that sells mutual funds, wealth advice and soon broking directly to retail investors, cutting out distributors and their commissions.
- No middlemen, no commissions - the entire customer journey runs through the JioFinance app on a direct-only model, which strips out the distributor fees that make traditional mutual funds more expensive for small investors.
- BlackRock’s brain under the hood - the asset manager uses BlackRock’s Aladdin platform for portfolio analytics and risk management, and its first active equity fund runs on BlackRock’s AI-based stock-picking system.
- Investors from small-town India - over 40% of retail assets come from beyond the top 30 cities, and roughly one in five investors is new to mutual funds altogether, showing the JV is reaching people traditional fund houses have not.
- Nine months to Rs. 15,200 crore - the AMC gathered that much in assets from 1.1 million retail investors and over 400 institutions within three quarters of launch, with half of those retail investors running active monthly savings plans.
4. Insurance: a broker today, an underwriter tomorrow
An insurance broker that sells policies from 34 insurers through a digital platform, while two joint ventures with Allianz are being built to manufacture reinsurance and general insurance products.
- Insurance embedded where people already buy - the broking arm places bite-sized policies (cyber cover, EMI protection, mobile theft) inside other digital customer journeys, so insurance is sold at the point of need rather than through a separate sales pitch.
- A commercial vehicle portal, an industry first - the broker launched a dedicated digital portal for commercial vehicle insurance, a segment that has traditionally been served offline.
- The manufacturing licences are in motion - a reinsurance joint venture with Allianz went live in March 2026, a general insurance JV agreement was executed in April 2026, and a life insurance JV is under discussion, which would turn the company from a distributor into a full-stack insurer.
Technology and shared platform
Every business runs on the same cloud-native, AI-first technology stack, which keeps costs low and lets the company launch regulated entities in months rather than years.
- One data lake for the whole group - an enterprise-wide data repository built on open-source tools feeds real-time analytics and machine-learning models that predict which product a customer is likely to need next, and it is live across all entities.
- AI agents handle the routine work - 15 AI agents and six machine-learning models power the app’s recommendation engine, 88% of customer queries at JIBL are resolved by bots, and all digital content is AI-generated.
- A single customer identity across every product - a consent-based identity layer means a customer who takes a home loan, buys a mutual fund and pays through the app is recognised as the same person, enabling a unified view without breaking data-privacy rules.
- Lean team, gig workforce - the company has just over 1,000 employees with an average age of 34, supplemented by gig workers, and aims to run as a “zero-ops” organisation built on straight-through processing and self-healing systems.
Group structure and partners
A publicly-listed holding company that owns seven wholly-owned operating subsidiaries and runs four joint ventures with global financial heavyweights BlackRock and Allianz.
- Wholly-owned operating arms - the group directly controls its lending NBFC (Jio Credit), insurance broker (Jio Insurance Broking), payment aggregator (Jio Payment Solutions), payments bank (Jio Payments Bank, fully bought out from SBI in mid-2025), leasing company, platform services entity and a newly-formed alternative investment manager.
- BlackRock for investments - a 50:50 partnership spanning three entities for asset management, wealth advisory and broking, with both partners committing US$ 150 million initially.
- Allianz for insurance manufacturing - a 50:50 reinsurance JV that began operating in March 2026, a general insurance JV incorporated in May 2026, and a non-binding agreement for a life insurance JV, giving the group a path from broking into underwriting.
