Jindal Stainless Ltd Growth Catalysts - SOIC x StockScans Report
as of Aug 2026
- Indonesia melt shop ramp-up - The 1.2 MTPA Indonesia melt shop was commissioned ahead of schedule in March 2026, taking global melt capacity above 4.2 MTPA, and is expected to ramp to 70-80% utilization in FY27. This adds over 40% melt capacity with slabs processed at Jajpur and Mundra, with management's ₹18,000-20,000 EBITDA guidance already factoring in the Indonesia value chain.
- Downstream CRAP expansion - Cold rolling capacity rises from 2.05 MTPA to 2.67 MTPA by FY28, backed by a fresh ₹900 crore commitment for Hisar and Kharagpur, with commissioning planned by Q2 FY28. This aligns downstream readiness with the expanded melt capacity, taking cold rolling to 64% of total melt capacity.
- Jajpur HRAP and CRAP lines - A 1.1 MTPA HRAP line is expected ready by Q4 FY27 and a 0.17 MTPA CRAP line by Q2 FY27, part of the ₹1,900 crore Jajpur investment. These lines convert Indonesia slabs into finished products, removing the downstream bottleneck that would otherwise cap volume growth.
- Chromeni Steels integration - The 0.6 MTPA Mundra cold rolling plant, acquired for ₹1,618 crore, is running at 80-85% utilization and was a major contributor to Q1 results. The plant's full integration adds high-margin cold rolled capacity without new capex, and its pipe natural gas connectivity proved valuable during supply disruptions.
- Maharashtra greenfield project - Land acquisition is in full force with a substantial portion already acquired, and a detailed plan is expected within 1-2 quarters. The ₹40,000 crore, four-phase project of a million tonnes each is the primary volume growth driver beyond FY29.
- Railway and metro demand - ICF Chennai has specified high-strength austenitic stainless steel for the K-RIDE project, and Vande Bharat's shift from ferritic to austenitic grades is driving value-added demand. Metro coach demand is expected to grow 2-3x over 3-4 years, supported by 400 new Vande Bharat trains and metro expansions in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Gurugram, and Delhi.
- Stainless steel infrastructure mandate - MoRTH has mandated high-tensile stainless steel in bridges across coastal and saltwater-affected areas, expanding beyond the earlier 15-km coastal zone. This opens India's 11,098 km coastline for stainless steel, where the material extends structure life to 75 years and cuts maintenance costs by nearly 50%.
- Rathi Super Steel long products - Stainless rebar sales are picking up at 2,000-2,500 tons per month, targeting a mix of 6,000-7,000 tons rebar and 3,000-4,000 tons wire rod. Policy-level decisions are coming to make rebars mandatory in coastal areas, and private developers like Whiteland and NESCO are already adopting them.
- Export market diversification - Export strategy targets South Korea, Japan, and Brazil for margin upside, with Japan entry described as "very good" and volumes expected to grow over coming quarters. Management expects export share of 8-10% in FY27, maintaining volumes as part of its EBITDA maximization strategy.
