Motherson Sumi Wiring India Ltd Growth Catalysts - SOIC x StockScans Report
as of Aug 2026
- Greenfield ramp-up to full run rate - The three greenfield plants (Navagam, Kharkhoda, Pune) hit break-even in Q4 FY26 and held a \~₹450 crore quarterly run rate in Q1 FY27, with bottom-line contribution expected in one or two quarters. That run rate is \~88-89% of the ₹2,000-2,100 crore annualized target, so reaching it fully adds roughly ₹1,600 crore of revenue - about 13% of FY26 sales - at margins that should approach existing-plant levels.
- EV harness share crossing 10% - EV revenue share rose to 8.5% in Q1 FY27 from 6.6% in FY26, with management a wiring partner for most new EV programs in India. High-voltage harnesses carry higher content per vehicle, so each point of share shift adds revenue faster than the ICE mix; double digits looks reachable within FY27.
- Copper pass-through lag compression - Copper is 24-28% of COGS with a 3-month lag for most customers and 6-month for a few; management is pushing to move to monthly or 15-day resets. Copper rose \~53% YoY in Q1 FY27, so cutting the lag from 3 months to 1 month would recover roughly two months of price increases sooner - worth \~2% of quarterly EBITDA each time copper spikes.
- New architecture content growth - MSWIL is a design partner for future vehicles of a Japanese OEM and produces the extra data and video cables that zonal and 48V architectures require, which are more value-enhancing than standard harnesses. Content per vehicle keeps rising as features increase, so revenue grows even without new vehicle volume.
- New business wins across segments - MSWIL won new business across PV, CV, two-wheelers, off-road, and tractors in FY25-26, with the order book expanding; it already supplies 9 of India's top 10 PV programs. Diversification beyond PV reduces dependence on any single OEM's model cycle and feeds the greenfield plants as they ramp.
- Capex plateau at \~₹200 crore - FY27 capex is guided at \~₹200 crore, similar to FY26's \~₹190 crore, funded from internal accruals. With greenfield construction largely done, the heavy spend is behind; steady-state capex at this level while revenue grows means operating cash flow converts increasingly to free cash flow.
- Cost recovery on wage and polymer hikes - Management is in discussions with customers to recover exceptional minimum wage increases (30-40% in NCR) and rising polymer prices, with no timeline disclosed. Q1 FY27 employee cost was ₹600 crore; recovering even a portion of the mandated wage hike restores margins toward the 9-10% OPM range seen before the greenfield drag.
