Orient Bell Ltd Growth Catalysts - SOIC x StockScans Report
as of Aug 2026
- GVT capacity conversion - Orient Bell plans to invest \~₹10 crores to convert 0.1 crore meters of existing ceramic capacity to GVT, part of a \~₹15 crore small capex programme over the next 4-5 months, internally financed. This lifts capacity utilization in Q3 and Q4 without new capacity spend, driving operating leverage on the existing base.
- Price increases & margin recovery - A cumulative \~20% price increase taken in March and April, with Q1 FY27 gross margin at a record 39.7% and EBITDA up to ₹17.6 crores from ₹5.6 crores YoY. Management expects FY27 margins to keep improving quarter-on-quarter, with nearly 60% of incremental FY26 revenue flowing to the bottom line.
- South & West India expansion - South business grew \~37% in volume and West \~60% in Q1 FY27, both faster than company average, in historically underrepresented territories. The Dora GVT line and Hoskote white-body 60x120 production are supplying this growth, with focused dealer expansion and brand-building continuing.
- MasterBond adhesives rollout - Tile adhesives revenue reached ₹2.5 crores in Q1 FY27, 100% cash-and-carry with no own plant, scaling from select North geographies to North and parts of East India this year. The business carries no major capex, can be cost-effectively supplied within a 300-350 km radius, and gross margins are expected to be attractive.
- Morbi supply disruption gains - Morbi plants shut from end-March to mid-May, and a large number of smaller units have closed permanently as their cost of production makes them uncompetitive. Orient Bell's three factories outside Morbi give better stock availability, and the price gap with Morbi has narrowed from \~₹100 to ₹50-55, supporting market share gains.
- Next phase capacity expansion - Management is evaluating the next phase of manufacturing capacity expansion, with a decision expected in 2-3 months and an announcement in 3-4 months. Current capacity of \~4.2-4.3 crore sq meters has enough spare for 2-3 years, so this decision sets up the next growth leg beyond FY27.
- Project/enterprise segment revival - Project revenue was 18% of Q1 sales, and management plans to build extra volumes from the enterprise/large builder segment as retail has grown faster for several quarters. Cement and steel - the first stage of construction - have shown strong revival, which should trickle down to tile demand as projects progress.
- Working capital & balance sheet - Net debt turned negative at ₹47.7 crores as of 30 June 2026, with cash of ₹74.0 crores versus borrowings of ₹26.3 crores, and the cash conversion cycle improved to 18 days. With no major capacity capex planned in FY27, this cash position funds the small capex programme and any future expansion internally.
