- Fredun Pharmaceuticals is a pharmaceutical manufacturer that has spent nearly four decades turning its own factory floor into a diversified healthcare platform - it started manufacturing allopathic formulations in 1994, survived a near-collapse when its partners moved away, and rebuilt itself by owning the brands and product registrations it once only manufactured. Today, the company operates under the tagline “Compassionate Healthcare” and has expanded from generic drugs into pet healthcare, nutrition, skincare, mobility aids, and premium wellness, all anchored by a manufacturing base in Palghar, Maharashtra, that produces close to 2,000 different products in-house. The recurring approach is to take a core manufacturing capability - whether in powders, granules, or creams - and build consumer-facing brands on top of it, so that the company captures the value of both the molecule and the label.
Business segments
Four engines built on a shared manufacturing backbone - a generics export and domestic branded-generics business that pays the bills, a pet-care ecosystem that is the company’s most ambitious growth bet, a suite of consumer-health brands spanning nutrition, skincare and mobility, and an early-stage premium wellness platform targeting longevity and hormone health.
1. Generics and branded generics: the foundation that funds everything else
Fredun makes finished-dose medicines - tablets, capsules, creams, and liquids - and sells them in 52 countries under its own registered brand names, which means its customers are tied to the company for as long as the registration is valid.
- Owns the registration, not just the factory - the company holds over 813 product registrations globally, with more than 1,426 additional ones under development, and roughly 65% of export revenue comes from products registered in Fredun’s own name rather than made for a third party; that turns a one-off manufacturing contract into a recurring stream because the overseas distributor cannot easily switch suppliers.
- A broad medicine cabinet - the portfolio spans 34 therapeutic areas, from anti-malarials and anti-retrovirals to diabetes and cardiovascular drugs, including advanced molecules like Dolutegravir, Sofosbuvir, and Tenofovir Alafenamide; this breadth means the company is not dependent on any single disease category or patent cycle.
- Seven granulation suites and counting - the Palghar plant houses 13 compression machines, 37 packaging lines, and a recently added seventh granulation unit that boosted daily output by two tonnes; a fifth factory, initially 40,000 square feet, is being built for veterinary, nutraceutical, and specialty export production and is expected to start in October 2026.
2. Freossi pet healthcare: the company’s most strategically important growth platform
Fredun has built India’s only integrated pet-care ecosystem - it makes the medicines, the food, the grooming products, and even runs a 24/7 diagnostic centre with a pet ambulance, all under one brand.
- Built on a unique raw material - the division’s products are anchored on MCHC (Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite Complex), a natural calcium-phosphorus compound with over 60 years of clinical evidence, and Fredun is the largest manufacturer of MCHC in India, giving it a cost and supply advantage that no local competitor can easily replicate.
- From 4 products to 76-plus in four years - the Freossi range now covers antifungal creams, heart-failure chewables for dogs, liver and urinary health syrups, immunity boosters, and a full grooming line that includes anti-tick spray and plant-based wound cleansers; the brand has also entered the large-animal segment with lactation and joint supplements for cattle and horses.
- Bought a route to the consumer’s doorstep - through its subsidiary Fredun Retail, the company acquired One Pet Stop, a tech-enabled at-home grooming service that uses temperature-controlled vans and certified groomers to serve over 4,000 pet owners; this gives Freossi a direct B2C channel and a mobile app for booking and health reminders.
3. Consumer health brands: nutrition, skincare, and mobility aids
Three young divisions - nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, and mobility products - share a common playbook: manufacture in-house, sell through doctors and chemists, and use the same distribution network that carries the company’s generic drugs.
- Prescription-driven nutrition - the Fredun Nutrition range of 36-plus products, including a lactation booster called Mamalait and a PCOS management formula, is promoted ethically to doctors, which means the purchase decision starts in the clinic rather than on a supermarket shelf; the division has already shipped its first export orders to Nigeria and West Africa under its own brand name.
- Emu Oil as a differentiator - the BeautyFred and Bird n Beauty skincare lines use humanely sourced, chemically purified Emu Oil as a signature ingredient, and the company claims to be the first in India to launch Emu Oil-enriched personal care products at scale; the dedicated factory has already produced over one million bottles.
- A pain balm for the masses - Chuu Balm, developed over 12 months of clinical trials by 14 scientists, is priced specifically for economically disadvantaged communities and sold through OTC stores; the automatic manufacturing unit was commercialised with orders for nine million units, and the product rides on the same pharma distribution channel that competitors like Visco and Timo lack.
- Mobility aids with a logistics edge - the Fredun Mobility division currently has 143 SKUs - knee caps, lumbo-sacral belts, nebulisers, and digital thermometers - and because it uses the Fredun Gx distribution network, it reaches chemist shops that standalone orthopaedic brands cannot access efficiently.
4. Premium wellness and specialty therapeutics: an early bet on longevity
Two brands launched simultaneously in May 2026 - DAULCÉL and a Hormone Range - mark the company’s entry into cellular aging and doctor-led hormone therapy, built on a direct-to-patient digital model.
- India’s first NAD+ wellness line - DAULCÉL is positioned around NAD+ science, a molecule linked to cellular repair and healthy aging, and is described by the company as the first such offering in the Indian market.
Group structure and partners
Fredun Pharmaceuticals is a standalone listed entity that has only recently begun building a subsidiary structure, all of it aimed at moving closer to the end consumer.
- The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Fredun Group and is listed on the BSE, with founder Fredun Medhora as Managing Director and Dr. Daulat Medhora - a Ph.D. chemist - as Chairperson and Joint Managing Director.
- The company has a technology-transfer partnership with a UAE firm for manufacturing direct-compressible granules and ready-to-fill pellets, and marketing tie-ups with seven other manufacturers for products it does not make itself.
