Foseco India is the foundry industry’s equivalent of a pit crew - it supplies the specialised consumables and technical know-how that metal casters need at every step, from melting to finishing, but its products typically account for less than 5% of a foundry’s total production cost. Born in 1958 as the Indian arm of a concept that started in Birmingham, England, in 1932 - the name itself is a contraction of “Foundry Services Company” - it is now the Foundry Technologies Division of the London-listed Vesuvius Group plc. The recurring approach that explains everything else is “solutions partnering”: instead of just selling chemicals and filters, Foseco embeds its engineers on customer shop floors to co-create fixes tied to the customer’s own KPIs - fewer defective castings, higher yield, lower energy use - which makes the relationship sticky and price a secondary concern.
# Business segments
A single engine with two complementary gears - a core foundry consumables business that touches every stage of the casting process, and a recently acquired crucibles unit that deepens its reach into the faster-growing non-ferrous metals market.
## 1. Foundry consumables and solutions: the one-stop shop for India’s metal casters
**Foseco is the only supplier in India that offers products and services across the entire foundry process for both iron/steel and aluminium castings, and its products are mission-critical to quality even though they represent a sliver of the customer’s cost.**
- **Covers the whole casting journey** - the company makes and sells feeding systems (sleeves that manage how metal shrinks as it solidifies), filters that trap impurities, coatings that protect mould surfaces, binders that hold sand moulds together, fluxes that clean molten aluminium, and metal-treatment products that fine-tune the chemistry of steel and iron, meaning a foundry can source every consumable from one partner rather than juggling multiple vendors.
- **Sells outcomes, not just chemicals** - Foseco’s engineers use computer simulation and process-control tools to design a custom recipe for each customer’s casting challenge, whether that is eliminating pinhole defects in an engine block or cutting the energy bill for drying moulds; the company even places its own experts on customer sites to run live trials and productivity workshops.
- **Low cost share, high switching pain** - foundry consumables make up less than 5% of what it costs to produce a casting, yet they heavily influence whether the final part is scrap or saleable, so customers stick with a supplier whose chemistry they trust and whose technical team knows their process intimately.
- **Made in India, backed by a global library** - two plants in Pune and Puducherry operate as state of the art manufacturing facilities, with Foseco India having end-to-end responsibility of the entire supply chain process, while the Pune R&D lab adapts proprietary Vesuvius Group technology for local needs, such as zircon-free coatings that sidestep volatile imported raw-material prices.
- **Serves the whole foundry map** - the customer base spans automotive, railways, wind turbines, valves, construction equipment, and general engineering across 21 Indian states and 12 export countries, with no single customer accounting for 10% of revenue, and a distributor network that reaches even the small, family-run foundries that make up 90% of India’s roughly 4,500 casting units.
## 2. Crucibles and molten-metal systems: the non-ferrous growth lever
**Acquired in FY25 through a share swap that gave Foseco a 75% stake in the former Morganite Crucible India, this business makes the high-performance silicon-carbide and clay-graphite pots that hold molten metal - and it pulls Foseco deeper into aluminium, the fastest-growing corner of the foundry market.**
- **Bought, not built** - the acquisition came as part of the Vesuvius Group’s worldwide purchase of the Molten Metal Systems business from the Morgan Group, giving Foseco India immediate leadership in the domestic crucible market and access to advanced materials R&D at Sambhajinagar.
- **Paid with paper, not cash** - Foseco issued 1.15 million of its own shares to the sellers rather than draining cash, so the deal added a business with roughly Rs. 172 crore of standalone revenue in FY26 without stressing the balance sheet.
- **Feeds the aluminium shift** - as electric vehicles and lightweighting push automakers toward aluminium castings for battery housings and structural parts, the crucibles unit gives Foseco a direct line into the non-ferrous melting stage, complementing the fluxes and filters it already sells to aluminium foundries.
- **Synergies run both ways** - the subsidiary now sells products like INSTA Coatings and STELEX Optiflow filters that originated in Foseco’s core portfolio, while Foseco India earns a management fee for supporting crucible sales made by sister company Vesuvius India Ltd.
# Group structure and partners
**Foseco India is a publicly listed subsidiary controlled by the UK’s Vesuvius Group, with a single operating subsidiary of its own and a web of related-party ties that give it access to global technology and export markets.**
- **Ultimate parent is Vesuvius plc** - the immediate holding company is Foseco Overseas Limited (London), which held 49.15% of the shares as at the end of FY25 and nominates three of the seven board directors, making Foseco India the group’s designated Foundry Technologies Division for the country.
- **One subsidiary below** - Foseco Crucible (India) Limited (formerly Morganite Crucible India), in which Foseco India holds exactly 75% after selling down the excess shares acquired in the mandatory open offer, is the only subsidiary; there are no joint ventures or associates.
- **Global family ties** - the company buys raw materials and finished goods from, sells to, and pays royalties and consultancy fees to Vesuvius entities in the UK, Germany, the US, UAE, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, and Poland, which is how Indian foundries get access to group technology and how Foseco India earns a slice of inter-company trade.
