Vineet Laboratories is a specialist contract manufacturer of chemical building blocks for drug companies - it makes the intermediates that become finished medicines for HIV, diabetes, heart disease and more. The business was carved out of Ortin Laboratories Limited through a court-approved demerger in 2020 and listed independently in 2021, though its manufacturing roots go back to 2007. Everything it does follows a single recurring logic: run batch-mode chemical reactors to turn imported and domestic raw materials into high-purity intermediates, then sell those molecules to pharma and biotech companies that handle the final drug-making steps. # Business segments A single engine - contract manufacturing of API intermediates and fine chemicals - serving pharma, cosmetic and agrochemical customers from one plant, with one set of reactors and one operating model. ## 1. API intermediates: the molecules behind the medicines **The company makes the chemical middle-steps that drug manufacturers need but don't produce themselves - it is paid per batch of intermediates delivered, not per pill sold.** - **Built around batch reactors** - production runs in discrete batches using reactors, centrifuges, dryers and vacuum pumps, which lets the company switch between different intermediates as customer orders demand. - **HIV and diabetes are the anchor therapies** - the portfolio is built on intermediates for Ritonavir and Lopinavir (HIV/AIDS), Glimepiride (type 2 diabetes), and Darunavir (HIV), giving it a foothold in chronic-disease treatments where demand is steady. - **Beyond pharma, into sunscreens and anti-dandruff** - roughly a parallel stream of revenue comes from cosmetic ingredients: UVB absorbers like Octyl Methoxy Cinnamate and Avobenzone for sunscreens, plus Piroctone Olamine for anti-dandruff products, all made on the same equipment. - **China supplies the starting materials** - about 15% of raw-material costs come from Chinese vendors, with the rest sourced domestically, in an industry where India relies on China for roughly 80% of its API needs. - **Customers carry the delivery risk** - contracts, especially with government entities, include liquidated-damages clauses for late delivery, so on-time batch execution is baked into the commercial terms. ## 2. Job-work services: renting out the reactors **When customers bring their own chemistry, the company supplies the plant and the people - it earns a processing fee rather than selling the output.** - **Paid for manufacturing time, not product value** - job-work receipts are a distinct revenue stream where the company runs third-party processes through its reactors and charges for the service, carrying none of the raw-material cost or finished-product inventory risk. - **Same plant, different economics** - the batch-mode setup that makes its own intermediates also handles job work, so the asset base earns whether the molecule belongs to Vineet or to a customer. ## 3. Reagents and fine chemicals: the lab-supply sideline **A catalogue of specialty chemicals - lithium reagents, molecular-biology tools, inorganic compounds - sold in smaller volumes to research institutions and industrial labs.** - **Lithium and organometallic reagents** - products like N-Butyl Lithium, Methyl magnesium chloride and Lithium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide are workhorse reagents for organic synthesis, sold to labs that need them in pure, ready-to-use form. - **A molecular-biology reagent in the mix** - IPTG (Isopropyl-β-D-thiogalactopyranoside) is used to induce protein expression in biotech research, a niche product that diversifies the customer base into life-sciences institutions. - **Inorganic compounds with no therapeutic use** - Lithium Chloride and Lithium Carbonate sit outside the pharma value chain entirely, serving industrial applications instead.
