RKEC Projects is an Indian infrastructure builder that has spent four decades turning complex marine and civil engineering into a repeatable craft - it designs and constructs the kind of structures most contractors won’t touch, from naval jetties to cross-water bridges. The business began in 1985 when founder G. Radhakrishna started as a partner in a small construction firm, later striking out on his own as “RK Engineers & Contractors” before incorporating in 2005 and eventually listing on the NSE Main Board in 2020. The recurring approach is simple: stay specialised in technically demanding work, own the equipment that creates a moat, keep debt low, and let the founder’s personal involvement in every project stage act as the quality guarantee. # Business segments A single construction engine, but one that earns its keep across two distinct client worlds - heavy marine and defence infrastructure on one side, and civil works for ports, roads, and buildings on the other - all run through the same in-house design team and equipment fleet. ## 1. Marine & defence construction: the moat nobody can copy cheaply **The company is one of a tiny handful of Indian contractors that can design and build a naval jetty or an offshore intake structure, and it owns the floating equipment - including a 500-tonne jack-up barge - that makes competitors think twice.** - **Super-special defence registration** - it holds a Super Special Class contractor licence with the Ministry of Defence, which means there is no upper limit on the value of tenders it can bid for from the military; it is also registered with the Navy’s DGNP under S Class and with DRDO, a credential set that takes years to earn and cannot be bought. - **Owns the gear, not just the skill** - the company’s marine equipment fleet was valued at ₹75 crore in FY22 and includes a 500 MT jack-up barge, putting it among very few Indian contractors capable of major offshore piling without hiring third-party assets. - **In-house design locks in margins** - a technical team with more than 20 years of experience handles marine design internally, so the company controls the engineering logic of a project rather than subcontracting it, which keeps both cost and risk inside the tent. - **Defence clients pay for reliability** - its client list includes MES (Military Engineering Services), DGNP, and DRDO, all of whom prioritise on-time delivery and security clearance over the lowest bid, creating a relationship-based barrier to entry. ## 2. Civil & port infrastructure: the volume engine that feeds the fleet **Roads, bridges, port terminals, and industrial buildings provide the steady workflow that keeps the marine equipment and design team utilised between specialised defence jobs.** - **Ports are the bridge between marine and civil** - the company builds berths, wharves, mooring dolphins, and breakwaters for clients like JNPT, CoPT, and Adani Infra, work that draws on the same marine equipment but competes in a broader contractor pool. - **Bridges and roads round out the order book** - it constructs major and minor bridges, steel and composite girders, and rail-cum-road bridges, alongside highways and transmission lines, giving it access to NHAI and state public works budgets. - **Industrial civil works are the quiet filler** - it executes civil packages for power and refinery projects, heavy pre-stressed concrete structures, and framed warehouses, work that is less glamorous but keeps crews and equipment deployed. - **A single decision-maker sees the whole book** - the company does not split itself into reportable segments because the CODM assesses all projects together; the same raw-material vendors, the same equipment pool, and the same project-management discipline apply across every job. # Group structure and partners **The founder holds roughly two-thirds of the company, runs it personally, and has kept the balance sheet so lightly leveraged that the debt-to-equity ratio sits at 0.14 - a structure designed for survival in an industry where projects routinely get delayed or terminated.** - **Founder control with skin in the game** - promoter G. Radhakrishna held 73.52% personally as of FY23, and a 2025 preferential allotment converting his existing loan into equity was set to issue up to 18,30,000 equity shares to him, meaning he funds the company with his own money before asking a bank. - **Joint ventures open doors without bloating the balance sheet** - the company has partnered with Qingdao Construction Engineering Group (China), a dredging firm, and a sports-infrastructure specialist, using JV structures to access capabilities or geographies without acquiring them outright. - **No defaults, no deposits, no drama** - it has never accepted public deposits, raised no loans in FY25, and has not been declared a wilful defaulter by any lender, a clean record that supports the credit ratings it uses to negotiate better borrowing terms. - **A contract-termination shock is being fought, not absorbed** - when a ₹187 crore passenger-jetty contract in Mumbai was terminated by the client in April 2026, the company immediately stated it would pursue full cost recovery through arbitration, signalling it treats contract rights as assets to be enforced.
